Dr. Anwesha Borthakur

Humboldt Fellow

Anwesha Borthakur is primarily engaged in interdisciplinary research focusing on electronic (E-waste) and textile waste governance in India, South Africa, and the European Union. She was a Marie Skłodowska Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at KU Leuven, Belgium, and is currently an affiliate of the same university. Prior to that, she completed her PhD in science policy from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. Anwesha has previously been a Landhaus Fellow at the RCC. During her Humboldt Research Fellowship for experienced researchers, she will analyze the design of textile waste policies in India and South Africa and evaluate why the local traits that are centered around reuse and recycling are absent from the countries’ policymaking. The project aims to assess why India and South Africa are yet to capitalize the local waste management approaches that would align with a circular economy system. In her project, she will expand upon the analytical and empirical scope of her existing thirteen-year research based on her experience of working on electronic waste (E-waste) governance to include textile waste.
