Maile McFarland earned her bachelor’s degree in international relations from IE University in Spain in 2022 and a master’s degree in environmental policy and regulation from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2023. Her undergraduate thesis delved into the intersection of climate change and conflict in Afghanistan, while her master’s dissertation focused on exploring the relationship between perceptions of conflict and engagement with nature among young urbanites in the Valle del Cauca, Colombia.
Her research interests include environmental psychology, political ecology, nature and conflict studies, and colonialism. Throughout her academic journey, Maile actively engaged in projects with organizations such as the United Nations Development Programme and various NGOs, contributing her expertise in countries like Colombia, India, Guinea-Bissau, and Mexico. Additionally, her participation in the Rotary Youth Exchange program to Colombia in 2017 granted her fluency in Spanish and ignited a profound interest in the country, shaping her future research pursuits.
Maile joined the RCC as an intern in April 2024.
