Catherine Bush is the author of five novels, including the climate-themed Blaze Island (2020), a Globe & Mail Best Book, and The Rules of Engagement (2000), named a New York Times Notable Book and a Globe & Mail and LA Times Best Book of the Year. Shortlisted, among others, for the Trillium and City of Toronto Book Awards, her novels have explored intersections of realism and the speculative while bringing ecological concerns and the languages of science to literature. Her nonfiction has been published in The New York Times, Brick, Emergence, Noema, and Best Canadian Essays. She was a 2019 Fiction Meets Science Fellow at the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg in Germany and has written and spoken internationally about responding to the climate crisis through fiction. She teaches creative writing at the University of Guelph, Canada, and is an affiliate member of the Guelph Institute for Environmental Research. She currently lives in Toronto.
