Relaunch and Exhibition Opening of Ecopolis Munich: Environmental Stories of Discovery

Student Exhibition on Munich’s Environments at SHAERE Munich

19.10.2022 18:00  – 21:00

Location: SHAERE Munich, Fritz-Schäffer-Straße 9, 81737 Munich

We are excited to announce the relaunch of the 2019 Ecopolis exhibition at SHAERE (a collaboration with Community Kitchen Munich), a 40.000 square meter communal space for artists, students, teachers, young and old to learn, live, and engage with one another.

Water and stone, animals, plants, fungi, bacteria: together with the human inhabitants they have left their mark on the Bavarian capital. The student exhibition Ecopolis Munich sets out in search of the past, present, and future relations between humans and their Munich environments.

Whoever knew that potatoes were once cultivated in the English Garden or that mushrooms grow in the urban underground? Where did Berg am Laim get its name from? What is the connection between Munich’s slaughterhouse and cholera? Is the Weißwurst a genuine Bavarian invention? And why is it forbidden to light candles in the Fröttmaning church? The stories told in this exhibition ask: to whom does the urban world belong and what do we want the urban environment of the future to look like.

Günes Seyfarth, the initiator and director of Community Kitchen Munich at SHAERE, together with Johanna Felber, former Environmental Studies Certificate Program (ESCP) student and project manager of the Ecopolis relaunch, will host the opening event with snacks and drinks.

Admission is free.
