Carolin is currently completing her doctoral dissertation on DisConnections and livelihood strategies in the Pamir region of Tajikistan. Her fieldwork across Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan brought to light the promotion, practices, and promises of tourism and nature conservation as they are linked to ideas, imaginaries, and “the need” of development. While such alliances may be clear in prototypically “remote” places, such as the central Asian highlands, Carolin is curious to explore the richness of such entanglements in former coal mining regions in East Germany. Before her academic endeavours, Carolin worked as professional photographer.
