Lajos Rácz was a Carson Fellow from July 2010 to September 2010 and from April 2011 to June 2011.

Lajos Rácz is a professor at Szeged University and a visiting professor at Central European University, Budapest. He has specialized in climate and environmental history since 1985. He obtained his doctoral degree in 1995, and received the title of Doctorat of Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 2004. He has participated in several research trips over the course of his career, the most important of which were to the Historical Institute of Bern University, École des Hautes Études en Science Sociales in Paris, the Geographical Institute of Masaryk University in Brno, and the Research Institute of the Dutch Academy in Wassenaar (NIAS). His research areas are the reconstruction of climatic and environmental changes based on documentary sources since the late Middle Ages. His research activities have recently turned towards the examination of the modern subsistence systems.

The main goal of his scholarship in Munich was the completion of a manuscript for a concise Hungarian environmental history book in English.
