Angelo Matteo Caglioti is assistant professor at Barnard College, Columbia University. His research intersects late modern European history, history of science, and environmental history. He is particularly interested in the history of fascism in a global perspective, climate science, and European environmental imperialism. He received a PhD in history from the University of California, Berkeley, and a B.A. from the University of Padova. In 2017-2018 he was a Max Weber Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence. His research was supported by the Institute of European Studies and the Center for Science, Medicine & Society at Berkeley, the Social Science Research Council, the American Geophysical Union, and the American Meteorological Society. He was recently awarded the Rome Prize in Modern Italian Studies at the American Academy of Rome. He has published on the history of Italian nationalism and eugenics. He also co-edited with Martin Mahony (University of East Anglia) Relocating Meteorology, the 2017 themed issued of the journal History of Meteorology. His RCC project The Hydro-Politics of Fascism is part of his larger book manuscript, tentatively titled The Climate of Fascism: Science, Environment and Empire in Liberal and Fascist Italy (1860-1960).
