Aaron Katzeman is a PhD candidate in visual studies with an emphasis in global studies at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). His research focuses on contemporary art, radical cinema, and decolonial land struggles. At the Rachel Carson Center, he will be working on his dissertation project, “Land, Art, Liberation: Groundings of Revolutionary Ecology,” which rearticulates the historical tendency of 1960s and 1970s Land Art within the context of US settler colonialism and imperialism, analyzing visual culture produced alongside global resistance to military occupation, social movements for agrarian reform, and anti-colonial national liberation struggles. Aaron is currently an advisory board member of the UCI Environmental Humanities Research Center, a co-organizer of the Climate Futures Collective, and a curatorial researcher with the Orange County Museum of Art for their participation in the 2024 Getty Pacific Standard Time: Art x Science x L.A. exhibition.
