Climate Litigation in Brazil: The Case of Lagoa da Conceição, SC
SPEAK4Nature Seminar
30.10.2024 at 14:00
Location: conference room, fourth floor, RCC
In this Speak4Nature seminar, environmental lawyers Iasna Chaves Viana and Isabel Pinheiro de Paula Couto will discuss the case of the lagoon in Florianópolis, Brazil. Subject to anthropogenic degradation, including a catastrophe in 2021 that resulted in severe pollution by sewage water, the lagoon has now been considered also a subject of rights. Iasna and Isabel will discuss their work as scholars and lawyers on establishing adequate protection for Lagoa de Conceição in the face of increased development and environmental destruction.
Iasna Chaves Viana and Isabel Pinheiro de Paula Couto are practicing lawyers and doctoral candidates at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), Brazil, and are currently secondees at the Rachel Carson Center, LMU Munich.
No registration is needed to attend this seminar. If you would like to attend online, however, please contact Jonatan Palmblad.
Speak4Nature is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie-funded staff exchange action of the European Commission, with the specific object of transferring both theoretical and empirical knowledge related to the techniques that assert the voice of non-human nature in social and legal instances.
