Film Screening and Talk: “The Living Forest: A Voice from the Ecuadorian Amazon”

LearningNatures Event

01.12.2023 17:00  – 18:30

Location: Katholische Hochschulgemeinde, Leopoldstr. 11, 1. OG Saal

Moderation: Dr. Francesca Mezzenzana

We will be discussing the history of Sarayaku, an Indigenous community in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Sarayaku has engaged in decades-long struggles against oil extraction in their territory, after their land was illegally entered by the Argentinian oil company CGC in the early 2000s. Lesly Mayancha and Franks Mayancha, members of Sarayaku, will be sharing the experiences of their community's resistance throughout the years and their cosmovision for the future of the Amazon. The event will include a film screening by Eriberto Gualinga, Indigenous film-maker from Sarayaku, followed by a discussion with our guests.

The event is free of charge. Please notice that the talk will take place in English and Spanish and the film will be shown in Spanish (with subtitles in English and German).
