Articulating Nature: Reflections on Non-School Environmental Education Practices in a Protected Area Of La Araucanía Region, Southern Chile

Workshop with Dr. Pelayo Benavides

20.06.2023 13:15  – 15:00

Location: Rachel Carson Center, fourth floor, conference room

“Articulating Nature” aims to present an alternative approach to environmental education experiences, one that dynamically immerses the audience in their surroundings and permits a more significant dialogue with nature’s various nonhuman elements and phenomena. Inspired by his work with the Corporación Nacional Forestal (CONAF), which regularly implements educational programming for all types of audiences during the summer season, Dr. S. Pelayo Benavides will present how nature is articulated with the conscious cooperation of human and nonhuman actors.

Dr. Pelayo Benavides is a lecturer and researcher at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Villarrica Campus. He received his MA in social anthropology from Massey University, New Zealand, and his PhD in social anthropology from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. He maintains affiliation with the Centro UC de Desarrollo Local, Educación e Interculturalidad, and is a member of the Sociedad Chilena de Socioecología y Etnoecología (SOSOET), as well as the International Society for Anthrozoology (ISAZ).
