Tuesday Discussion with Michael Vitzthum and Heidemarie Isele (Travelling by Public Transport)

18.11.2025 16:30  – 17:45

Location: Rachel Carson Center, fourth floor, Conference Room, Leopoldstr. 11a, 80802 Munich, Germany

This Tuesday, Michael Vitzthum and Heidemarie Isele, co-authors of the travel guide Natürlich mit Öffis! Die besten Bergtouren ab München mit Bahn & Bus [Of Course by Public Transport! The Best Mountain Tours from Munich by Train and Bus], will join us for the Tuesday Discussion and show how to plan and carry out mountain tours using public transportation.

For them, traveling without a car does not mean sacrifice, but rather opens up completely new possibilities. The best tours are not possible despite, but only with, trains and buses: magnificent crossings and traverses, far away from the hotspots. It detaches travelers from fixed starting and finishing points and allows them to experience the mountains much more consciously and intensely and, in doing so, makes an important contribution to protecting the climate, nature, and local residents.

The two mountaineers, together with three other friends, have compiled their experiences and adventures in a book featuring 38 sustainable mountain tours. They spent a whole year in the mountains discovering the most beautiful trails, peaks, and ultimate places to swim and rest. The authors call these special hikes “mountain safaris.” Come along on the tour, get to know the book, and discuss with them how to experience intense, climate-friendly, and long-lasting mountain adventures with just the smallest changes in behavior.

The Tuesday Discussions are free and open to the public.
