Decolonial Food Practices: Farming for Freedom in the West Bank, Palastine

Seminar with Collective Food Pickling

23.02.2024 18:00  – 00:00

Location: conference room, fourth floor, RCC

Organizers: Decolonial Practices Group

Speaker: Mai Abbas

The Decolonial Practices Group has organized a talk by Mai Abbas followed by a collective pickling activity.

Note: Please bring your own pickling jar, so we can pickle together and decolonize our food.

Palestinians are resisting Israeli colonialization by cultivating local seeds and adopting organic and agroecologic farming practices. They firmly believe that food politics and food sovereignity (the right of communities to define and control their own food system in a way that is socially just, ecologically sustainable and culturally appropriate) intersect with the broader struggle for self-determination and freedom. During this event, Mai will delve into Palastinian farmers' formidable challenges and elucidate how implementing sustainable farming practices can pave the way for independence and freedom. Mai's insights are drawn from her master's thesis, conducted in 2016.
