What Rights for Which Animals? Precedents and Horizons in Legal Status of Nonhuman Animals
SPEAK4Nature Seminar
19.09.2024 12:00 – 13:00
Location: conference room, fourth floor, RCC
Presenter: Gonzalo Luis Corti (National University of the Littoral)
Since the first South American rulings that established the legal status of nonhuman animals (Suiza, Sandra, and Cecilia), there has been a growing interest in revising their legal status, whether through legislative reforms or judicial rulings. Increasing progress in this regard can be found across the globe.
However, there are still many debates pending if we do not want to take false steps that could lead to reactionary reversals. In this seminar, we will briefly review the different legal situations of different types of animals and then discuss which criteria we consider to be solid for animal defence and which need to be reviewed and discussed in greater depth.
This is a seminar within the series “Environmental Law: Current Discussion,” which is open to anyone interested. Feel free to bring your lunch.
The series is a part of the EU-funded project Speak4Nature.
