“Landraub und Widerstand: Gewalt gegen Indigene Völker aus Brasilien”
A Talk in Collaboration with Speak4Nature
21.11.2024
Location: Pro REGENWALD, 2nd floor, Frohschammerstr. 14, 80807 Munich
In light of ongoing mining and landgrabbing in the Amazon region, Tuxaua Filipe Gabriel Mura (Indigenous representative from the territory of Soares/Urucurituba, Brazil) and João Vitor Lisboa Baptista (lawyer and legal advisor to Conselho Indigenista Missionário Regional Norte I [CIMI] and Observatório de Direito Socioambiental e Direitos Humanos na Amazônia [ODSDH]) will in this talk discuss violence against Indigenous communities and Indigenous forms of resistance. The speakers will not only address the challenges that Indigenous communities face on a daily basis, but also highlight concrete solutions and demands aimed at upholding the rights and protecting Indigenous territories, raising important questions about the role of society in supporting Indigenous peoples in their struggle for autonomy and human rights.
This event is organized in collaboration with the Rachel Carson Center and Speak4Nature at the LMU. Read more about the event here.
