The International Doctorate Program (IDK) “Rethinking Environment” in cooperation with the Rachel Carson Center and the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy (MCMP) are glad to share a call for application for the workshop “Defining and Using Aesthetics in the Environmental Humanities.”

Researchers from any disciplinary background and career stage interested in aesthetics and/or the environmental humanities are cordially invited to participate in this upcoming workshop. Attendees will participate in in-depth discussions and engage in collaborative exercises—all with the aim to increase our collective understanding of aesthetics as an analytical category and its application to practical contexts. No specific research experience in aesthetics or abstract submissions will be required for participation.

To kick off the workshop, Prof. Emily Brady (Texas A&M University) will deliver an opening keynote, titled “Planetary Aesthetics and the Environmental Humanities.” This will be a public event, taking place online on 10 April. Registration is open to all, even those not taking part in the workshop.

The workshop itself will take place in the LMU main building on 11 April, and conclude with a closing statement by Prof. Sonja Dümpelmann, co-director of the RCC. The keynote and workshop will both be conducted in English.

Registration

Please register for both (or either) the opening keynote and in-person workshop through Eventbrite. The deadline for workshop participation applications is 28 February, 12:00 (CET). Registration for the opening keynote will remain open until 10 April.
