Tuesday Discussion with Tobias Gaugler & Amelie Michalke

24.01.2023 16:30  – 17:45

Location: Rachel Carson Center, Conference Room (4th floor), Leopoldstr. 11a, 80802 Munich, Germany

This week’s Tuesday Discussion is with Tobias Gaugler and Amelie Michalke on the topic of “True Cost Accounting.”

This week, Dr. Tobias Gaugler, resource economist from the University of Augsburg/University of Nuremberg, and Amelie Michalke, industrial engineer from the University of Greifswald, will present their work on the true cost accounting of food. Tobias Gaugler’s study “How much is the dish?” calculates how hidden costs of three key environmental impacts—nitrogen, greenhouse gas emissions, and energy consumption—are incurred in food production but not included in the market prices. The study is the first to date that has calculated these environmental impacts for Germany. Our speakers will give us an insight into their work on true cost accounting, and we will discuss how the “polluter pays principle” could be implemented.

The Tuesday Discussions are free and open to the public.
