Tuesday Discussion with Anke M. Friedrich (Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, LMU)

This Tuesday, geologist Anke M. Friedrich, a leading earthquake expert, will join us for a discussion on the 2023 Turkey–Syria earthquakes. She will talk about the causes of the quakes, disregarded building regulations, the public’s misconceptions about earthquakes, and the crucial role of science communication. Professor Friedrich was on the spot when this 1000-year seismic event took place and will give a firsthand account of it. The focus of the discussion will be on earthquake preparedness and mitigation strategies.
