Film Talk: HOLGUT

DOK.fest München 2021 @home

10.05.2021 at 20:00

Location: Online (DOK.fest München homepage)

Synopsis:

"Permafrost is kind of cool!" Two expeditions take us into the harsh expanse of Yakutia. While a boy from the city is introduced to the art of hunting by his brother, a researcher digs through the gradually melting permafrost. He is searching for a single, perfectly preserved mammoth cell. His vision: to one day clone the giants of the Ice Age in a genetic laboratory and release them back into the wild in the tundra. Between high-tech dreams and primeval rituals, the film spans a fascinating arc with majestic, somber images of a nature that may soon no longer exist.

The film talk will be moderated by RCC director Christof Mauch. The virtual panel will include Liesbeth De Ceulaer (director), Elena Feditchkina Tracy (RCC alumni fellow / Indigenous Services Canada), and Olga Trufanova (University of Regensburg).

The event is free of charge, the livestream and the chat are available on the DOK.fest München homepage (no registration required).

Please note: The livestream will only show the film talk, not the documentary HOLGUT. You can purchase tickets for the film separately and watch it anytime between May 5 and May 23 (only available throughout Germany).

The event takes place in cooperation with DOK.fest München. Since 2019, DOK.fest München has been the largest documentary film festival in Germany and has developed into one of the most relevant platforms for documentary film in Europe. Every year in May and all year round, they present outstanding documentary films from all over the world. Due to COVID-19 containment measures, the festival has been held temporarily online since 2020.
