Talk and Discussion with Uwe Lübken and Timothy Brown

"'The Silent Spring' and its Consequences: From Rachel Carson to Donald Trump, Environmental Movements and Politics in the USA"

06.02.2019 20:00  – 21:30

Talk (in German) and Discussion (in German and English)

Organizer: Münchner Volkshochschule, Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society

Location: Bildungszentrum, Vortragssaal 1., Einsteinstr. 28, München

The USA holds a divisive relationship with the environment. On one hand it boasts imposing National Parks, icons of environmentalism like John Muir and Rachel Carson, and some strong environmental legislation. On the other hand are its seemingly insatiable energy demands, a consumer society, a frightening level of waste production, and a government that has withdrawn from the Paris climate agreement. How does this all fit together and what are the consequences for Europe?

Professor Uwe Lübken from LMU’s Amerika-Institut will address these issues in a talk, which will be followed by a dialogue with RCC Fellow Timothy Brown and then questions from the audience.
