Place-Based Workshop with UW-Madison

Together with the Center for Culture, History and the Environment at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the RCC is organizing a Place-Based Workshop (PBW)
on “Changing Landscapes of Indigeneity” from May 13-16, 2019.
The workshop will be led by anthropologist Larry Nesper and the group will visit parts of Indian Country in Wisconsin.
The workshop will focus attention on indigenous environmental and cultural change in Wisconsin over the last three centuries. Professor Nesper will draw upon several different disciplinary and interdisciplinary methods for studying environmental change and the human cultural contexts within which it occurs.
The workshop will include visits to mound sites in the region around the Four Lakes including the Man Mound near Baraboo, the former Badger Ammunition plant which has been decommissioned and a part of which has been acquired by the Ho-Chunk, the Menominee reservation, and the Oneida reservation with a focus on the Oneida Nation Farms.
