Climate and Migration: Anya Zilberstein and Eleonora Rohland

Climate Discussion Group

06.03.2012 at 14:00

Location: RCC Conference Room, Leopoldstr. 11a

Carson Fellow Anya Zilberstein will give a presentation on "The Circum-Caribbean Climate in the Eighteenth Century." She will elaborate on climate-based arguments promoting free black settlement in British Florida in the 1760s and similar arguments that were mustered 30 years later that opposed the deportation of Jamaicans to Nova Scotia in the 1790s.

Our second speaker, Eleonora Rohland (Institute of Advanced Study, Essen, KWI, Project Climate & Culture) will present her research about the New Orleans hurricane of 1722 and relate it to the theme of disaster migration.

Since both topics are very close to the research we are conducting for our project "Climates of Migration," we will give a short presentation ourselves (time allowing) at the end of the seminar.

The Climate Discusion Group is an open forum of and for people with an interest in climate change-related topics. It meets on a monthly basis to host a variety of activities, such as project presentations, guest lectures, discussions of literature, book presentations, etc.

If you would like more information about the group, please contact Uwe Lübken.
