23.10.2025 – 26.10.2025
Organizers: Judith Bopp (RCC), Nakul Heroor (RCC), and Renuka Karuppian (Vaan Sirappu Knowledge Center, Tiruvannamalai)
Venue: Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, India
This four-day in-person gathering, hosted by Vaan Sirappu Knowledge Center in Tiruvannamalai, India, brings together farmers, scholars, local residents, and students to engage in knowledge exchange on the critical relationships between land, soil health, food practices, and fermentation.
Participants from India, Thailand, and Europe will exchange practices for viable small-scale farming and local food systems. The event features transdisciplinary topical discussions and experiential learning regarding soil health practices, sustainable food production, and fermentation. The interregional setup will stimulate the cross-cultural exchange of practices between the participants and generate ideas around how to adapt these techniques within their local settings. The workshop will conclude with a food and cultures fair showcasing local foods and products and including cultural activities.
The gathering is co-organized by Renuka Karuppian, director of the Vaan Sirappu Knowledge Center, and RCC Doctoral Candidate Nakul Heroor and Research Fellow Judith Bopp. The workshop will be documented through photography and film.
