"One Book – Many Worlds" invited not only LMU members to be part of the project but also the Munich public. The following event formats were open to everybody who is interested in embarking on a multifaceted discussion of related to climate.

Events with Amitav Ghosh

As a kick-off to the project, Amitav Ghosh visited Munich from the 17 to 20 November 2024 for a series of events.

Interdisciplinary Lecture Series at RCC's Lunchtime Colloquium

In our interdisciplinary lecture series, two experts representing different disciplinary perspectives took on a theme from the book and exchanged ideas as part of a joint short lecture and a subsequent discussion.

Green Vision Film Series

In collaboration with the Green Vision Film Series, we screened four films related to the themes from Gun Island

  • 22 October 2024, 18:00: Screning Anthropocene - The Human Epoch, Q&A with Prof. Dr. Helmut Trischler
  • 03 December 2024, 18:00: Screening Banglavenezia, Q&A with Prof. Dr. Christof Mauch 
  • 14 January 2025, 18:00: Utama, Q&A with Heinz Schulze (Informationsstelle Perú e.V.)
  • 25 February 2025, 18:00: Echoes from Borderland, Q&A with Hanna Hocker (Sound, Echoes from Borderland) 

One Book - Many Worlds Student Exhibition

The opening of "Taumelnd trauen, verschlungen bleiben" was celebrated with a Vernissage on Thursday, 03 April 2024. 

Gun Island across LMU

Members of several faculties across LMU took on Gun Island and ideas from "One Book – Many Worlds" in their syllabus. 

  • Katie Ritson, Institute for Scandinavian Studies taught a seminar titled "Literatur mit Ausblick. Die Natur in der Kultur Skandinaviens"
  • Juliane Prade-Weiss and Nakul Heroor, Comparative Literature taught a reading course titled "Weltliteratur: Amitav Ghosh's Gun Island"
  • Sarah Fekadu-Uthoff, English Literature taught a seminar titled "Ecology and Empire: Literature, Nature, Culture in the 19th Century (and Beyond)"
  • Leonie N. Bossert and Davina Holl, Munich Science Communication Lab referred to Ghosh's work in their joint lecture titled "The Planetary Uncanny: More-Than-Human Entanglements and the Planetary Health Humanities"
