Strengthening the Environmental Humanities
The project Strengthening the Environmental Humanities (2020–26) supports the permanent institutionalization of the Environmental Humanities (EH) at LMU Munich and is funded by the Volkswagen Foundation through its “Hochschule der Zukunft / University of the Future” funding line. From 2020 to 2023, the project team led by Dr. Anna Antonova and Dr. Hanna Straß-Senol developed and formalized the curricula for the interdisciplinary Master’s Program Environment and Society, now running successfully in its second year and awarded in 2023 with the LMU Innovative Teaching Award.
In its second phase, the project is expanding the role of environmental humanities at LMU and beyond through a number of initiatives, including the networking project One Book - Many Worlds, which will feature a series of academic and public-facing events on the humanistic aspects of climate change starting with the winter semester of 2024/2025. You can read more about our plans for One Book – Many Worlds, including Amitav Ghosh’s planned visit to Munich in November 2024, below.
Strengthening the Environmental Humanities will also host four short-term visiting professors at the RCC from 2024 onward and has financed or will finance several academic workshops starting in 2022.
