Student Assistant (m/f/d) Events Management

The Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society (RCC) is looking for a student assistant (studentische Hilfskraft) on a 10–15h/week contract to join its Project Management team. The position will start on 15 July 2025 or shortly thereafter.

The RCC is an international research center dedicated to the study of environment and society from a wealth of disciplines and international perspectives. The RCC features graduate programs (a certificate program and a master’s program in the environmental studies, a structured doctoral program, and an international doctoral program in cooperation with the University of Augsburg). It is home to numerous research projects, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), the European Research Council (ERC), the Volkswagen Foundation, the Federal Ministry for Research and Education (BMBF), and others. It also hosts visiting scholars and fellows from across the world.

Responsibilities

  • Events management: organization of the RCC’s academic conferences, workshops, and other events in close collaboration with the conveners;
  • Administrative support: hotel bookings, catering, travel reimbursements;
  • On-site event support (occasionally on the weekend);
  • Research and editing assistance to Prof. Dr. Christof Mauch.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or master degree in the humanities, social sciences, or a related field;
  • Very good written and spoken English and German;
  • Strong organizational skills and an eye for detail;
  • Experience in conducting research;
  • Applicants should enjoy working in a team, be able to work independently, and be interested in working with colleagues of diverse cultural backgrounds. An interest in environmental issues would be advantageous;
  • Enrolled status (Immatrikulation) at a German university; candidates should be planning to stay enrolled as a student for at least one year beyond July 2025 and must be able to work at the office (Leopoldstraße 11a) two to three days a week.

The position is initially for one year. Salary will be determined according to LMU compensation for studentische Hilfskräfte. The RCC is located in central Munich and offers a culturally diverse, family-friendly, and flexible work environment.
