What is daily life in the Landhaus like? What should I know before applying?

The RCC Landhaus houses ten scholars (nine fellows and one house manager) who each have their own bedroom and bathroom (most ensuite). These ten scholars share a kitchen, dining area, study, living room, garden, and other common areas. Fellows will mostly have time to work on their own writing projects—they can either work in their rooms or in the common spaces. Fellows are encouraged to organize their own community events at the Landhaus (academic, social, culinary, etc.).

The house manager will facilitate life in a shared living setting; there will be house meetings to discuss any issues that might arise. In addition, the house manager will help plan house events from time to time, and will serve as a resource for helping with logistical issues in Herrmannsdorf and Munich.

The Landhaus program best suits scholars who enjoy living and working in a collaborative setting. Candidates should be open-minded, flexible, and able to share space with others. Candidates should also be respectful and congenial members of the greater Herrmannsdorf community; many people who work in the various onsite Landwerkstätten (including meat production) also live at Herrmannsdorf.
