Marcus Andreas studied educational sciences and social and cultural anthropology at LMU Munich. He received his MA in 2007 for his thesis on the "Visualization of Complex Systems: Knowledge Representation and Communication." From 2008 to 2009 Andreas helped to set up and manage an interdisciplinary working group (Research in Community e.V.) that conducts research into ecovillages. The team was acknowledged as an official project of the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development 2005–2014. At the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society he co-organized the workshop Realizing Utopia and co-edited the respective RCC Perspectives issue (2012/ 8). He is also responsible for the Center's visual communication, as well as for the coordination of several projects, such as the new research focus of LMU Munich's Center for Advanced Studies (CAS) entitled: Waste and Society. In April 2013, Andreas finished his dissertation entitled "Positionierung im Wandel: Ethnographie eines Ökodorfes" [Positioning (with-)in Transition: The Ethnography of an Ecovillage].
