Former Carson Fellow Anna Varga Honored with Hungarian Book Award

27.06.2025

Anna Varga, who twice received a Carson Fellowship, has been prized with the 2024 Beautiful Hungarian Book Award by the Hungarian Publishers’ and Booksellers’ Association for her 2024 monograph A vadon legeltetése: Fás legelők, erdei legeltetés és pásztorvilág a Bakony és a Balaton vidékén és azon túl (Shepherding the Wild: Wood Pastures, Forest Grazing, and Pastoralism in the Region of Bakony and Balaton in Hungary and Beyond), published by Veszprém Megyei Honismereti Egyesület. The award ceremony took place during the opening night of the ninety-sixth Festive Book Week in Budapest in June 2025.

During her first fellowship, in 2019–2020, Anna worked on a research project titled “Shepherding the Wild: Unmaking and Remaking Hungarian Wood Pastures.” It is thrilling to see her project concluded, with such an interesting and outstanding book as an outcome.

On behalf of the entire RCC community, we would like to warmly congratulate Anna on this wonderful achievement.
