New Book by Jared Farmer

Former Carson fellow Jared Farmer has recently published Elderflora: A Modern History of Ancient Trees (Basic Books, 2022), in which he surveys the complex history of the world's oldest trees from an array of different perspectives. From Lebanon to New Zealand to California, he includes the voices of Indigenous peoples, religious figures, and contemporary scientists and shows that even in a changing climate a long future is still possible, but only if we give care to young things that might grow old.
