New Anthology by Alumnus Christopher Cokinos (plus Virtual Launch)

Beyond Earth's Edge: The Poetry of Spaceflight

15.09.2020

Former fellow Christopher Cokinos is co-editor with Julie Swarstad Johnson of a new anthology called Beyond Earth's Edge: The Poetry of Spaceflight, (forthcoming: 6 October 2020, University of Arizona Press). Supported by a grant from the Sloan Foundation for the Public Understanding of Science, the book gathers poetic responses spanning the Space Age, from the launch of Sputnik to the Apollo era, from robotic probes to the space shuttle and even science-fictional visions of the human place in space. Exploring both the promise and perils of space exploration, the book includes a wide range of voices, from such poets as Nikki Giovanni and Tracy K. Smith to new and emerging writers.
