Karen Oslund to Speak at the University of Greenland

"Arctic Nature Management in Greenland and Canada in the Long Nineteenth Century"

The bowhead whale, the harp seal, the muskox: these are all animals that belong in the Arctic. But to whom do they belong? To governments or to local hunters? How have animals been hunted differently in different areas of the Arctic in history, and who has determined hunting rights and restrictions? Carson Fellow Karen Oslund will give a talk comparing Greenland and Canada in a historical perspective, at the University of Greenland on 15 May 2013.
