New RCC Perspectives Issue Examines Post-Fukushima Europe
05.04.2012
This spring marks the first anniversary of the reactor meltdown at Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. To contribute to the global dialogue surrounding the tragedy and its implications, this issue examines Fukushima’s impact and possible legacy in Europe.
While Europe may have been spared radioactive fallout, the political and cultural fallout has been significant. Is this the beginning of the end of the nuclear era, or the beginning of a new one, glimpsed in the shade of authoritarian regimes? Three German scholars—from the fields of history, ethics, and law—provide their perspectives on the uncertain landscape of post-Fukushima Europe.
This issue is part of the Center’s research on natural disasters and cultures of risk. As always, it is available online and free to download.
