Prof. Dr. Finn Arne Jørgensen

Visiting Scholar

Finn Arne Jørgensen is a professor of environmental history at the University of Stavanger, Norway. His research focuses on how technologies mediate and enable human relationships with nature, and includes studies of waste and recycling histories in Scandinavia and the US, the history of Norwegian leisure cabins, material culture and consumption studies, and the connections between environmental humanities, media studies, and digital humanities. He earned his PhD in Science and Technology Studies from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in 2007 and was associate professor of history of technology and environment at Umeå University, Sweden, from 2010 to 2017. He is the author of Making a Green Machine: The Infrastructure of Beverage Container Recycling (Rutgers University Press, 2011) and coeditor of New Natures: Joining Environmental History with Science and Technology Studies (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2013), and Norske hytter i endring (Tapir Akademisk Forlag, 2011).

During his RCC stay, he will be completing Recycling: Essential Knowledge, under contract with MIT Press.
