Yue Yunxiao is a researcher at the Institute of Historical Geography and Environment Evolution, Taiyuan Normal University, China. She obtained her doctorate degree in historical geography from Fudan University, China, in 2013.

She is currently a part-time researcher at the Northwest Institute of Historical Environment and Socio-Economic Development, Shaanxi Normal University, China, and a member of the Society of the Ancient Capital of Shaanxi. Her research focuses mainly on the environmental transformation and the economic and social development of the Yellow River basin and Loess Plateau in from 1000 BCE until today, involving water conservancy development, ecological evolution, ecological and social responses to soil erosion, the role of the government and the people, and geospatial analysis. She has a multidisciplinary background and a broad academic vision with a focus on the collection of folk documents. She uses a number of different techniques and tools and conducts field investigation of vernacular and historical water landscapes.
