Anne Rademacher is an urban ecologist, ethnographer, and lifelong student of the intertwined worlds of social and environmental transformation. Her focus is primarily on the cities of South Asia, through books that include Reigning the River: Urban Ecologies and Political Transformation in Kathmandu (Duke University Press, 2011) and Building Green: Environmental Architects and the Struggle for Sustainability in Mumbai (University of California Press, 2018). Anne co-convenes the Ecologies of Urbanism Network, an interdisciplinary web of researchers who work on urban ecological change; the most recent co-edited volume from that network is Death and Life of Nature in Asian Cities (Hong Kong University Press, 2021). She is professor of environmental studies at New York University.

Anne Rademacher came to the RCC as a visiting scholar in 2019 with a project on “Moral Ecology and the (Re) Making of Cities: Forging an Urban Future in Mumbai.”
