Call for Interns: Communications, Publishing, and Library Maintenance

The Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society (RCC) is offering an internship which will start on 15 January or 1 February 2026 and will last three months.

The RCC is an international, interdisciplinary research institute located in central Munich. It was founded in 2009 as a joint initiative of LMU Munich (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität) and the Deutsches Museum. Its working language is English. The RCC features a number of graduate programs, is home to numerous research projects, and hosts a rotating group of international visiting scholars and fellows.

Our institute runs several digital publications as well as a library holding approximately 7800 books that speak to the environmental humanities. An internship will provide students with an opportunity to gain experience in working in an academic institution as well as acquiring and honing skills in communications, publishing, and library maintenance in an international environment.

The internship focus areas are spread across two teams: Editorial and Communications as well as Project Management (incl. library maintenance).

Tasks will vary but are likely to involve the following:

  • Maintenance of RCC websites and social-media accounts;
  • Archiving digital content and concluded projects with the university library;
  • Editorial support for RCC publications;
  • Research and management of visual material;
  • Drafting and editing texts;
  • Maintenance of RCC Library;
  • General office duties;
  • Assistance with events management.

Requirements

The successful candidate will speak and write English fluently; they will also have an interest in the environmental humanities or sciences. We welcome international applicants, however, the responsibility for fulfilling visa requirements rests with the applicant.

This is a three-month internship. Internships can be structured as either part-time (20–30 hours a week) or full-time (40 hours a week). Interns have a regular working schedule.

Please note: RCC interns are not involved in research. Salary is determined by LMU’s compensation for interns and amounts to EUR 250 per month for a full-time position. We are unable to provide accommodation but are happy to provide information and guidance on how to find a place to stay.

To apply, please send your CV and a cover letter in one PDF file to interns@rcc.lmu.de by 9 November 2025.
