Libby Robin, Kirsten Wehner, and Gregg Mitman Awarded Major Research Grant by Australian Research Council

Project entitled “Understanding Australia in The Age of Humans: Localising the Anthropocene”

05.11.2015

RCC Board Member Libby Robin, Carson Fellow Kirsten Wehner, and future Carson Fellow Gregg Mitman have been awarded a major research grant by the Australian Research Council, under the umbrella of the National Competitive Grants Programme. The award of A$431,150 will fund their project, in collaboration with other Australian scholars, entitled “Understanding Australia in The Age of Humans: Localising the Anthropocene.” The project aims to undertake a comprehensive investigation of Australia as a distinctive locality within the global idea of the Anthropocene. Analyzing and narrating how human interventions have come to transform Australian environments in fundamental and enduring ways, it aims to show the history, impact, and implications of human-influenced biophysical planetary change within our distinctive and vulnerable continental and ocean environments. It also plans to use both print and museum environments to develop new understandings of the cultural dimensions of the “Age of Humans.” Congratulations Libby, Kirsten, Gregg, and colleagues!
