Volume 12 of RCC “Umwelt and Gesellschaft” Book Series, "Projektion Natur: Grüne Gentechnik im Fokus der Wissenschaften," Released

17.09.2014

The RCC is proud to announce the release of volume 12 of its German-language series, “Umwelt und Gesellschaft” (Environment and Society): Annette Meyer and Stephan Schleissing’s "Projektion Natur: Grüne Gentechnik im Fokus der Wissenschaften."

The ongoing debate in Germany about so-called green genetic engineering has caused a deep divide in both the relevant research and in society in general. Both the opponents and the proponents of this technology provide support for their respective positions by referring to scientific studies. At the center of the discussion lies not just the new technologies that are emerging, but also the very different ways in which people can view nature. This volume tries to show how green genetic engineering is part of the on-going discussion about nature and culture in general, the goal being to remove the classical barriers to mutual understanding.

"Umwelt und Gesellschaft" seeks to become the prime German-language outlet for high-quality monographs and edited volumes of environmental research within the humanities, with a special emphasis on environmental history. It is interdisciplinary and open in thematic and methodological respects, and open to all scholars who publish in German. The series is published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht, and is edited by Christof Mauch, Helmuth Trischler, and Frank Uekötter.
