The RCC Welcomes New Board Members

Four New Scholars Join the Academic Advisory Board

The RCC would like to welcome four new members to its Academic Advisory Board; Eveline Dürr, Libby Robin, Hou Shen, and Verena Winiwarter will join Greg Bankoff, Jane Carruthers, Wolfram Mauser, John McNeill, and Renate Schubert in advising the RCC on its programs and research throughout the next three years. The board now has members from almost every continent (Africa, Asia, North America, Australia, Europe) and from many different disciplines (history, anthropology, human ecology, geography, and economics).

Eveline Dürr is an anthropologist at LMU; her specialization lies in Latin America, but she also has research interest in North America and New Zealand. She has been involved in many projects at the RCC and is Deputy Director of our PhD Program “Environment and Society.”

Libby Robin is Professor at the Fenner School of Environment and Society (Austrlian National University) and Senior Fellow at the Centre for Historical Research/ National Museum of Australia. She has a strong background in museum studies which will be especially helpful as the RCC prepares its upcoming Anthropocene Exhibition.

Hou Shen is Co-President of the Alumni Fellows of the Carson Center and Deputy Director of the newly founded Center for Ecological History at Renmin University, Beijing. Shen has a background in environmental history, having completed her PhD in this area at the University of Kansas.

Verena Winiwarter (a scholar with degrees in technical chemistry, environmental history and human ecology) is Professor of Environmental History and Dean of the Faculty for Interdisciplinary Studies at Klagenfurt University in Vienna; she is also the Founding President of the European Society for Environmental History.
