Upcoming conferences and lectures.

17.01.2011

Ingo Heidbrink will host the annual conference of the North American Society for Oceanic History (NASOH) to be held at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA (USA) in May 2011. The main theme of the conference will be new approaches to maritime history at the beginning of the twenty-first century and maritime environmental history will be a major focus during the conference. Heidbrink has also been invited to give a lecture at the annual meeting of the Finish Commission for Maritime History in March 2010. His contribution will deal with the technological innovation of the European inland waterway shipping and shed light on a number of environmental aspects related to the use of rivers as transportation routes.

Heidbrink has been elected Secretary General of the International Commission for Maritime History (ICMH) for the period up to 2015.

Futhermore, the International Economic History Association has accepted a session proposal on fisheries history proposed by Heidbrink, David J. Starkey, and Chris Reis for the upcoming Wolrd Economic History Conference to be held in Stellenbosch, South Africa in the summer of 2012. Please contact Ingo Heidbrink (iheidbri@odu.edu) for details about the proposed session and in particular if you are interested in preparing a paper for the proposed session.
