Dr. Barbara Wittmann is a social anthropologist whose research focuses on agriculture, food cultures, human-animal relations and migration. She has worked as a research assistant and lecturer at the University of Regensburg in the Department of Comparative European Ethnology. Her doctoral thesis (summa cum laude), funded by the German Federal Foundation for the Environment, focused on the controversial topic of intensive livestock farming, for which she conducted interviews and participant observations. The study examines farmers' positions on social, economic, ecological and animal ethics challenges using a subject-centered approach. Her work was awarded prizes by the German Society for Agricultural History and the Bavarian Academy of Rural Areas.
