Jonatan has a master's degree in history of science and ideas and a bachelor's in liberal arts, both attained at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. His academic background includes—but is not limited to—philosophy, ecocriticism, human ecology, environmental humanities theory, and classical languages. Jonatan's master's thesis concerned the understanding of human and non-human agency in George Perkins Marsh's seminal work Man and Nature from 1864, and argued for a higher awareness of historical views on the subject when it comes to contemporary discussions on the Anthropocene. As of January 2018, he is the managing editor and curator of Arcadia.
