In 2019, Kerstin Kessler joined the RCC as Environmental Humanities Program Associate. Funded as part of the Volkswagen Stiftung’s ‘Hochschule der Zukunft’ initiative, the EHP team is developing a new higher education program in environmental humanities. She received her bachelor’s degree in social and cultural anthropology at LMU Munich with a minor in geography. During her post-graduate studies in social and cultural anthropology she specialized on human-environmental relations, together with a regional focus on Latin American contexts. She took part in the Globalization Program in Venice and conducted ethnographic fieldwork in Mexico City. In her master’s thesis, she studied transforming perceptions of urban environments by looking at new practices of urban cycling in Mexico City. Kerstin is also participating in the RCC’s Environmental Studies Certificate Program.
