The Gitga'at First Nation on the west coast of Canada have an intense relationship with nature, especially with whales. For 15 years now two whale researchers, Janie Wray and Hermann Meuter, have been documenting the behaviour of orcas, humpback and fin whales at this very location. But this unique retreat for marine mammals is threatened by a planned tanker route for transporting liquefied natural gas to China. In her film, Mirjam Leuze raises the question of whether we humans have the right to shape the world solely according to our needs.
A discussion in German with Mirjam Leuze, the director, will follow the screening.
