Serenella Iovino Awarded MLA Prize

08.12.2017

Serenella Iovino has been awarded the Scaglione Prize for Italian Studies from the Modern Language Association for her book Ecocriticism and Italy.

The prize, established by the Aldo and Jeanne Scaglione Endowment Fund, is awarded to the author of an outstanding scholarly book on any phase of Italian literature or culture, or comparative literature involving Italian.

Ecocriticism and Italy explores the nexus of ecology and imagination. Examining cases where justice, society, and politics intertwine with stories of land and life, pollution and redemption, Iovino argues that literature, art, and criticism are able to transform the silence of suffering worlds into stories of resistance and liberation.
