Sustainability Lecture Series Honored by German UNESCO Commission

07.05.2012

The RCC is honored to announce that our collaborative sustainability lecture series, “Leitbild Nachhaltigkeit,” has received an award from the German UNESCO Commission for its efforts to inspire people to pursue a sustainable and just future. The lecture series is organized in partnership with ten Munich area universities.

“Leitbild Nachhaltigkeit impressively demonstrates what viable education for the future can look like. The jury’s vote honors the project because it teaches in a comprehensible manner how people can act sustainably,” said the Chairman of the National Committee of the UN Decade, Prof. Dr. Gerhard de Haan.

Dr. de Haan will present the award to representatives of the ten universities, including the RCC, on 5 June 2012 at the Altes Rathaus, before the series lecture entitled “Education and Research for Sustainable Development.”

The lecture series joins more than 1500 projects in Germany as recipients of this award.

The award is part of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014), an initiative to support and promote educational efforts that encourage sustainable behavior among both children and adults. Its overall goal is to develop a common understanding of individual impacts on current and future generations, at both a local and global scale, as well as to provide models for empowering and enabling sustainable actions.

The German UNESCO Commission, appointed by the Bundestag, is in charge of coordinating the German activities under this global initiative.
