Tuesday Discussion with Timothy J. LeCain (Montana State University/Oslo Institute for Advanced Study) on His New Book: The Matter of History

13.06.2017 12:15  – 13:15

Location: Rachel Carson Center, Leopoldstr. 11a, 4th Floor, Room 415 (conference room)

This week, Carson Alumnus Timothy J. LeCain (Montana State University/Oslo Institute for Advanced Study) will launch his new book, The Matter of History: How Things Create the Past (Cambridge University Press June 2017). LeCain argues that we need to write history in a radically new way since insights into microbiome, epigenetics, and cognition have challenged our idea about what it means to be human. He looks at cattle, silkworms, and copper and argues that these “things” helped drive North America and Asia together towards a global ''Great Convergence'' in the nineteeth century.
