Lunchtime Colloquium

30.04.2015 12:00  – 14:00

Location: Katholische Hochschulgemeinde (KHG), Leopoldstr. 11, 1st Floor

Ruth Morgan (Monash University) will present on "Australindia: Australia, India, South Africa and the ecologies of empire, 1757 to 1914."

Although India was long the jewel in the crown of the British Empire, its influence on Australian ecologies has received relatively little scholarly attention. And the role of the Britain’s South African colonies at the Cape and Natal in influencing settler understandings of the Australian environment have received even less. In this paper, I introduce this developing project and use a case study of colonial water management to explore environmental connections across the Indian Ocean.

The Lunchtime Colloquium is free and open to the public.

Snacks are served at 12:00; the lecture starts at 12:30.
