München auf dem Weg zu Zero Waste—Munich's Path to Zero Waste

Panel Discussion

24.10.2014 at 18:00

Location: Center for Advanced Studies, Seestr. 13, Munich

Speakers:  Wolfgang M. Heckl (director of the Deutsches Museum and author of Die Kultur der Reperatur), Herbert Köpnick (former director of the Department for Resource Management, Bavarian State Ministry for the Environment), and Helmut Schmidt (Factory Manager, Abfallwirtschaftsbetrieb München—Waste Management Company Munich).

Waste does not accumulate, we produced it. What we produce, we can prevent. It was with this in mind that the European Union made preventing waste one of its top priorities. The goal is a Europe free of waste—a zero waste society. To accompany the conference "Whose Waste, Whose Problem"—organized by the Rachel Carson Center and the LMU Center for Advanced Studies—the convenors have put together a panel discussion that will look at the implementation of this goal in Munich. The panelists will discuss the following questions: How far along is Munich on the path to a zero waste society? Can a city become waste-free on its own? What role can government play?

This event is in German and free to the public.

Following the discussion there will be a reception with light refreshments.
